Perfect is the enemy of good. Carter did one bad thing in a lifetime of good things, so throw him under the bus.

It’s not just one bad thing honestly.

He also approved the sale of fighter jets to Suharto’s regime in Indonesia and continued on with the official endorsement of Indonesian sovereignty over East Timor. The occupation of East Timor took the lives of 200,000 East Timorese Catholics from 1975-1999, to demonstrate how our support of Indonesia’s illegal occupation of a former Portuguese colony was catastrophic for those who experienced it.

If he had repented his support of William Calley and the continued arming of an Indonesian dictator, I wouldn’t be this critical of him.
