Regardless of what anyone believes, the Second Amendment has been adjudicated an Individual Right by the Supreme Court. They also declared it is a right that can be Regulated.

That is law, as interpreted, that we have to work with.

That’s not my fucking point. My point is that we have a Constitution, the law of our land, that has an assertion in it that’s absolutely untrue. I don’t get why this doesn’t bug people, I don’t get why it doesn’t bug gun enthusiasts especially.

The 2nd amendment states that the purpose of people having the right to carry arms is because militias are necessary for the protection of a free state. I absolutely know that legally, that doesn’t mean that it invalidates the amendment, that it’s ‘flavor text’ as it were. It is still an absolutely untrue statement and it’s in our most important document, and that’s not trivial.

I really feel that gun enthusiasts don’t want to have this conversation because it makes them uncomfortable to deal with the fact that the 2nd amendment clearly states the reason for its existence, and that that reason is not something that’s true any more.
