Uh, Obama is doing exactly what civil libertarians all knew he would do, ever since his FISA vote, long before he got elected.

This is yet another decision that proves Obama isn’t the flaming lefty people enjoy imagining him as.

Oh he’s still pretty left wing but he is also smart enough to realize that on some issues, being far left just won’t cut it. I think he is taking a page from Bill Clinton’s playbook. He understands the stakes and knows that if he panders to the moveon.org crowd, he’s sure to lose support among the centrists. This is a smart calculation in the game of political calculus.
