One of the things I appreciate about Texas when it comes to voting is that we don’t have to register with a party. You can pick which primary you’re going to vote in and then you’re locked in with that party for any runoffs that happen, but otherwise you’re not stuck with a party.
The problem with an open primary is that you get people who are looking to do nothing but ratfuck candidates. I never have and wouldn’t. I know some people wanted to cross over to vote for Trump in the primary to ensure he would be the more easily beatable dem. There has been a lot of noise about GOPers doing the same to vote for Sanders. It’s a dual edged sword.
I think NY might be a tad overbearing on when someone can change registration but, hey, it’s not a new requirement. It’s not in place solely for this election and it is what it is.
