I just favor a universal ID that would put to rest any serious concerns about voter/welfare fraud and make it much more difficult for illegal aliens to establish themselves here economically.

It would not put to rest those concerns because they are largely based on racism not on logic. The undocumented already have plenty of impediments. And I still feel like there is a good faith argument for ID reform, just not one based on marginalized folks and how the powerful folks use them to keep themselves that way.
