Ideally, you’d want to have the impeachment hearings reach their crescendo around mid September - and then kick it over the Senate for trial in, let’s say, the first two weeks in October.

The GOP would be panicking. With only weeks to go until Election Day, the optics would look horrendous.

I rather think it would be the opposite, namely a blatantly partisan attempt to sway the election. The optics certainly look horrendous…for the Dems. Especially when you have to remember that this isn’t like a Hollywood crime drama where all the evidence gets in and all the witnesses scheduled to show up before being dramatically struck/sent away on live TV. While Yertle can’t stop the trial, he does have a say on what evidence gets in and who gets to testify, even if he has to share such with Schumer. Most folks don’t know that it was backroom wheeling and dealing that kept the trial portion of Monicagate from turning into a three-ring circus, despite the fanatical screams of the House Repubs.
