Was speaking to a group of mainly white colleagues today about why they shouldn’t fret about any violence connected to protests. Yeah, nobody wants to have any violence or destruction of property, but I asked them to think about this:

“What did you learn about the American Revolution and in particular the Boston Tea Party? The founding of this country is based on violent protest and destruction of property. The Boston Tea Party was an intentional and deliberate destruction of property, as a political protest. We celebrate it.”
