Oh FFS, would you be happier if he were speaking to Greenpeace or PETA or the Innocence Project for $400 K? He’s going to talk to these movers and shakers—and yes, sinners—about health care and how he thinks they can do things better in this and other fields of endeavor. Even Jesus didn’t preach only to the pure of soul. (True, JC didn’t pull down loads of money for a sermon either, but then he never got elected president or anything else.) No offense, you know I respect you, but that horse you’re riding on this particular subject looks about 180 hands high from here on the ground.

For the record, my comment on this speaking engagement is just that it looks bad, not that it makes Obama evil, or a sell-out or any of the other ODS tropes. Yes, I know this is the fucking optics thing, again. But optics in politics can’t be wished away just because it is an unfair pain in the ass. Especially when it’s a direct hit on a major fault line in the Democratic party exposed by the 2016 (D) primary.
