At this point, it doesn’t matter what political party he runs under, he’s going to win reelection in NJ handily.

The real issue is whether he’s intending to seek the presidency. That’s a much tougher task. He can’t do it as a GOPer because he’s not a true GOPer for fraternizing with Obama (even if it was all part of his damned job to secure funding for disaster relief). The socon true believers can’t trust someone like Christie because he holds beliefs that are too liberal for them - like sensible gun policies.

The anti-union stance he’s taken in the past notwithstanding, he just can’t find a home in the current GOP and with other pretenders jockeying for attention and money to get a campaign underway (as well as laying the groundwork for a ground game in the primaries). Rubio and Jindal are both attempting to prepare for the 2016 run, as is Santorum.

It’s a cavalcade of crazy, and Christie wasn’t invited. He’s probably thinking it a blessing in disguise.
