And the argument then devolves into “what constitutes crazy idiot.” Who makes those determinations? What information could be included? A social media post? A witness from twenty years ago? The argument would get lost in the weeds.

I’m for titling guns like homes and cars. You sell it, you make damn sure the title is transferred because the name on the title is the first person the cops go to. Stolen? You make damn sure there’s a police report. Untitled? Fine (and you don’t get it back until it is titled).

For safety, enact the NRA’s exact gun safety rules for negligent handling of a gun. Watch the NRA twist up in knots disavowing their own rules.

Would that stop all shootings, of course not, just as drunk drive laws don’t stop drunk driving. It gives you the tools to punish non-compliance.
