And that is the issue: the USA is no longer a stable partner. They really have to look at the ascending powers in the world (Russia, China) and come to terms with them without relying on the USA any more..

China is definitely a rising power who will dominate the world for the rest of our lifetime. But Russia — not so much. It’s successful at interfering with Western democracies and tearing us down. But economically, it’s irrelevant and there’s nothing to suggest that this will change. Putin is Kim with a lot of bombs and nothing more.
