This very thing happened to my dad and me while we were test driving an Opel Kadett that was a candidate for my first car. We weren’t pushing it so hard though. It blew up, caught fire, and burned out to a charred shell before the local fire department (of which my dad was later chief) could put it out. We returned to the dealership and reported that the Kadett had failed the test drive and we would look elsewhere.
