I think Bernie’s mistake on this is how it is phrased. There is nothing wrong with him pointing out areas where he differs with Hillary and arguing that his positions are better.

No, but holier-than-thou comes across as both tactless and stupid when you come crash somebody else’s party with the full knowledge that you need to expand your appeal to a broader base within that party.

I’m not sure which part bothers me more, the tactless or the stupid. Alienating potential supporters to shore up the already-rabid base is a very elementary mistake, and it doesn’t speak well to his decision-making.
