The tariffs would hurt buyers of high-end cars, like Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, for example. IOW, rich people’s cars. Most of the mid-range cars are already built in the USA. So, the tariffs would not really bring in much revenue, since the volume in high-end cars is relatively low.

He’s doing it only for the optics, to look “tough on trade” for his base to stare at, awestruck.

There are some manufacturers who need to supplement lines built here with those made overseas because of high demand. Those would fall into this category too.

You’d have to go manufacturer by manufacturer and car model by model to see what would be affected.

So it’s a lot less obvious what get whacked by Trump’s insane trade war until consumers start seeing higher costs for their Camrys or Accords or even Jeeps or other cars that are made outside the US.
