Let’s just face it: The GQP were never a serious challenge in CA. The polls looked close at one point, and that was scary, and that was good for the media horse race narrative; but really, we all knew (or should have known) that the question wasn’t if Newsom would hold the gubernatorial seat, but by how much. That it wasn’t even close is a resounding condemnation of the horse race narrative that the media keep pushing with every single political screwball that comes down the pike. I am so tired of everything being treated as, ZOMG DEMS IN DISARRAY REPUBLICANS COULD END AMERICA IF THEY DO THIS THING. The GQP is a threat to our existence, yes - but they’re in the minority, and if we keep showing the fuck up, we win. That’s all there is to it.

Not quite. There really was a question of whether Newsom voters would turn out in numbers — that’s why I spent the last week texting. It has happened before that issues that ” should have” won have failed because of poor turnout — that’s how brexit happened, after all.
