Ha, you’re right. I can just see the headline banner now: “MIDDLE EASTERN MAN INCITING REVOLT IN INNER CITIES.” I could even see a full-blown modern-day interpretation of the Gospel story, with Jesus as an inner-city social worker, and the Religious Right as the Pharisees, and the “crucifixion” would be him getting shot by a white terrorist nutjob, arrested as an “illegal immigrant”, and ultimately executed for a crime he didn’t commit.
I’ve never agreed with the interpretation that Christ was pretty much a communist/socialist but I definitely think there’s a little more validity to that than presenting him as the right’s version of capitalism.
