Think about the type of character you are dealing with. Most of these white nationalist/supremacists types have this whack idea they can take on the government. They see themselves as rugged individuals fighting all the wrongs. That is why so many put on their bad-ass camo costumes and go about looking like militia.

So they for sure celebrate someone like Lee because to them Lee is the ultimate white guy because he fought to keep those slaves in their place and he fought against the big bad US government to do it.

Thing is they go at elaborate lengths to deny Lee what eh was. They deny that Lee supported slavery. They deny that Lee had a choice in secession. They deny that he executed or put African-American soldiers into slavery. The Lee Mythos works because Lee is this mythical man of honor that never existed.
