Young people need to be taught the history of the Jews in order to understand why there needs to be an Israel.
They need to know about Spain. They need to know about Poland. They need to understand where “beyond the pale,” comes from. The list goes on, and I think most current college graduates, let alone high school graduates, would know only a fraction of it.
This is a good chance to ask you (and anyone else who cares to respond) if you’re familiar with Paul Johnson’s “A History of the Jews” and what you think of it. I have not gotten past the first few chapters but I do want to read it, since I’ve loved everything else of his that I’ve read.
