re: #168 AMER1CAN

Late term abortions should be disallowed unless in extreme circumstances when necessary. To simply decide you don’t want a baby and to get a late term abortion performed is something I cannot agree with. I am all for pro-choice, family planning, night after pill, etc,…. but after a certain point in a pregnancy you make a decision to keep that baby (extreme circumstances not withstanding) and I don’t think late term abortions should be performed on the fly or through the drive-through.

but this is part of the misconception (sic) about abortion in general and late-term abortion in particular. Women don’t waltz into a doctor’s office at 6, 7, 8, 9 months pregnant and say “hey! I want an abortion! Nope, never thought about this at all before, tee-hee!”—that is the propaganda the so-cons spew about it.

Late-term abortions shouldn’t even be called “abortion”— they’re *already* performed largely on purely medical reasons. I’ll give you one example, which just happened to a friend: imagine a woman who discovers that her fetus is already dead when she’s 7 months pregnant. Choices open to her: induce labour and go through that process—giving birth and enduring labour when you KNOW the fetus is already dead— or having this medical procedure.
my friend is Catholic and a mother of 4. Her procedure, guess what, is called “late-term abortion”.
