re: #263 Eventual Carrion

I feel I got cheated at the fair this afternoon, and not even by the games on the midway. Wife and I are walking through one of the exhibition halls and we come upon a Gideons International booth. I smile at the guy and say hi and he asks me if I would like one of the pocket bibles he has in a stack on the table. I say sure and put it in my shirt pocket when he handed it to me. Little while later as the wife and I were sitting eating Italian hot sausage sandwiches (they were good, and try apple fries sometime too) I pulled the “bible” out of my pocket. It is only the New Testament (with Psalms and Proverbs). I told my wife, jokingly, that is why I don’t trust religion because they are always lying to me (wife is a church going Lutheran). She just shook her head.

Do Gideon “bibles” in hotel rooms have the Old Testament? I never remember ever pulling one out to look.

Yeah, the little pocket ones are only the NT though the hotel ones have both. No apocrypha unfortunately (lots of Sirach in the daily office for us Anglicans of late) so I still have to have my own along. If I want a NT only book, I have my delightful copy of the Jewish Annotated New Testament edited by Amy-Jill Levine which gives lots
of interesting historical context.
