In this case, I think Maggie may be unjustly criticized. She isn’t signaling her agreement with Dowd — only reporting on what he’s doing. Without this tweet,
I certainly wouldn’t have been aware of Dowd’s attempt to protect his client. Perhaps it’s even a subtle mock of these efforts.

At the same time, she’s breathlessly repeating it without even a hint of being at all critical of it.
