Me, too - I couldn’t understand what I was missing and why they were acting like it was settled law especially when some voters were saying if they had known it would be binding they would have voted “stay.”

Mainly because once the Referendum had passed, there were too many “interested parties” - mostly interested in leveraging an out-of-the-EU UK for political and/or economic advantage - who suddenly decided they had a vested interest in committing to Brexit, and pushing it through regardless of what any “voters” thought (and recall, it was a fairly even split); hence the extended shambolic farce of years of insincere “negotiations”, putting off the inevitable “crash-out” ( the Tories’ backup plan for years) until it was too late.
