Good points but I don’t think Mitt was the core problem. I would have entertained the possibility of voting for Mitt or Huntsman. Neither of them are radicals. However, the environment with the rest of the republican party is the big problem. The party forces moderate candidates into running on impossible platforms. There’s always pandering to the base in the primaries but the wingnuts took it too far. Mitt was forced to essentially run on the platform of repealing the healthcare reform model he pioneered and a mathematically impossible fiscal/tax policy. No candidate can survive that.

It was a closer-run thing than that. We won because some pissed-off diner tanked Romney’s 47% speech and a storm surge came ashore at Sandy Hook instead of Hatteras. This whole thing could have gone south, and the threat from Citizen’s United isn’t gone.
