No, if North Korea fired a nuke at US forces or at the US, at a minimum we’ve nuke wherever the nuke was launched from. We’d tell China the nuke was coming, but we wouldn’t ask permission.

I didn’t think “take him seriously” meant he fired a nuke at us. Yes, if it gets to that point a return nuke is possible.

It is still not, however, a certainty. The first word is “fallout”, and the issue is Japan. There are also issues of political repercussions.

We would go to war with North Korea - no doubt. We’d go in to finish the Korean war. But I’m not convinced we’d use a nuke to do it.
