Well people want to live in different places. Your sister might feel more comfortable in Berkeley than Nebraska for her own reasons. It is unfortunate that nice places to live are more pricey.

There is that. People live where they want to live for the most part. She said she is looking into Detroit’s programme where the city seizes an abandoned property or one behind on taxes, and finds all the things wrong with it, then sells it for $1,000. (You have six months under that programme to bring the house up to code.) So I’m guessing staying in California is not her big issue. (That said, there is quite a bit to do in Detroit as well, and we are originally from Michigan.)
