Your author’s attraction to the phrase “Islamic takeover” is suspicious.

This could just be what happens all over the place - a particular religion wants to replicate itself.

Islamist is a real word with a specific meaning, which in this case may be appropriate. Not to be used interchangeably with Islamic, they are not the same thing.
