I killed my inner grammar nazi with this stake:

‘Grammar’ is not a set of instructions. ‘Grammar’ is a description of how things are done, linguistically.

This kind of linguistic description contrasts with linguistic prescription…

When things start to be done differently, the grammar changes accordingly.
