I got a dual citizenship about 10 years ago. Ireland. The law was if you had a parent or grandparent born there, you are eligible. You need grandparents birth, marriage and death certificates, your parent’s birth, marriage and death cert, and your birth cert. They did just open it further to great grandparents, but there are a few more steps, my nephew is doing it now. I never had a problem with it, I even was hired a few times for a job in the State Department (you get hired, then maybe you get placed), not an issue with the background checks…

Both my grandparents on my mom’s side were born in Ireland. Guess I could get dual citizenship. I’m not going to go through the hassle tho’.
