I don’t think you can tell a difference between an MP3 and CD or higher bit rate file in earbuds.

This is certainly my feeling.

While there are definite issues with Pono, I wonder if part of the extreme hard feelings it is generating relates to the ongoing war to firmly establish the “streaming model” as dominant. Personally, I like to listen to some things that are not currently available from Spotify et al (due to artist preference or just their obscurity) and I also like to feel free to listen to my music when I am “off the grid”. The demise of the only Apple player large enough to hold my MP3 collection is a worrying development to me.
