I’ve never agreed with the interpretation that Christ was pretty much a communist/socialist but I definitely think there’s a little more validity to that than presenting him as the right’s version of capitalism.

Communist/socialist, no, not really. He never preached universal wealth distribution; he even talked about how those who are rich must be good stewards of what they have been given, not that they must necessarily give away everything as a prerequisite to religious obedience.
