The dumbing down of America will some day result in all spellings being acceptable. Those who insist on such things as proper spelling and grammar will be ostracized.

Standardized spelling did not really catch on until the 1800s, at least in the USA, with the publication of Webster’s dictionary, and then with the spread of public education. So, in that sense, we are devolving.
