I totally understand why “Defund the Police” is a toxic political slogan, one so bad I’m almost afraid it was planted by right-wing ratfuckers.

Any real politician needs to distance themself from it. But to the protestor in the street being harassed by out-of-control over-militarized gonzo racist cops, it sounds like profound truth. Fortunately there are enough people who understand the optics that it’s not become as wide a rallying cry as I feared.

…all that said, sensible Americans do need to keep “Defund the (x) Police” as a tool in their kit. There are departments out there which are such bad actors, removing them and starting from scratch is the only answer.
