The last paragraph was separate to everything else. I want to promote the point that China is historically a second rate power, that has fallen apart more than Europe, and has been conquered more than Poland.

I am starting to believe that China, far from being an up-and-coming threat to US political dominance, has already peaked. Their “reforms” have created a mass of social, environmental, economic and social problems and they are going to have to spend the next 20-30 years sorting them out before they can think about moving up upward and onward.
