Yeah it’s actually not that bad a piece though I think Stephens loses his effectiveness ranting about his communist great uncle. The guy is a dingus aside from this but this was satirical.

I agree: not very well written, IMO: but the basic thesis is sound - xenophobic (sorry, “nationalistic”!) arguments from a hundred ago about how “all Jews” are ghetto-minded criminal misfits who shouldn’t be allowed into the US are the same ones Trump and his creatures spout off nowadays about “immigrants” in general. And have about the same basis in reality.
Though yeah, tossing in the stuff about his old Commie uncle didn’t add much: I noticed some of the NYT commenters (who were generally sympathetic) bringing it up as a negative….
