Note to astronomy types: A transit of Mercury will take place in 6 days. It will be in full daylight in the East US, start before dawn at the longitude of Flagstaff. (The whole passage takes about 5 hours.) It’s fairly simple to rig a cheap refractor for safe eyepiece projection, just like a solar eclipse viewing.
