re: #257 Jebediah, RBG

It felt to me like King wasn’t understanding that a film is a separate, free-standing work of art, no matter what it is based on. I can kind of understand that, since it was his book, but Kubrick created a masterpiece. If I recall correctly, the film adaptations of his books that he did have a big hand in were not quite as master-piece-y. Not really his oeuvre.

To give an idea of how things go when King is involved in the actual work as opposed to just a “consultant,” the miniseries version of The Shining and the new miniseries version of The Stand were almost universally panned, the former for being less of a “slow burn” and more of a damp squib, while the latter (including “all-new ending written by the man himself!”) is a lazy attempt to squeeze a bit of profitability out of an aging work.
