re: #247 darthstar

Increase fuel economy and encourage green energy…not that complicated or ideologically impure.

Let me just take one of these, since I have to leave soon. Because it turns out that increasing fuel economy is complicated, since it tends to lead to smaller cars people don’t want and are less safe since they are more lightly built. Real advances in engine technology to improve fuel economy are expensive, in both time and money, and even once they are developed it still takes years before they can be done cheaply enough for mass production.

Encouraging green energy is actually very complicated as well. A a fast example, just take Beacon Power. Not an EPIC FAIL like Solyndra, but they had a good green idea that they ultimately could not make work fast enough, cheaply enough.

Just on that point alone, Darthstar, your argument is undone by dynamic frustration, helped along by Mr. Murphy. And when that happens, politicians have to try something to shift the blame. Why? Because if they tried to explain dynamic frustration the voters would not believe them. Someone else would come up with a DERPy Lie that would be far easier for an uninformed person to get their head around.
