Heh, speaking of shrines housing holy books and such, did you know that the oldest surviving illustrated Gospels, the Garima Gospels, which are probably over 1400 years old, are still (to the best of my knowledge) housed in a simple building in the middle of nowhere? See the whole story here:
One of the world’s most rare written and drawn objects - right there in the mountains of Ethiopia. I always wonder how some antiquities remain where they are for thousands of years, but others get stolen and bought and traded around the world.
That’s astonishing. I’ve never heard of that manuscript before.
