We used to use Hagstrom maps - considered the ‘map of record’ for the NYC area. Saved my ass numerous times when I had to drive to parts of the city I wasn’t familiar with.
The British Ordnance Survey maps are brilliant. Went to Skye for a week and bought two 50,000-1 maps (North Skye, South Skye) and I swear to Dog they had sheep trails on them, along with every single fucking structure, including crofts abandoned in the 1800’s, on the island.
