Right. Why the hell do people have to be such pedantic dipshits about this? We’re both a democracy and a republic.

Mostly, the “republic not a democracy” arguments I’ve seen publicized stem almost entirely from the RW: it’s a handy rhetorical crutch for ideologues/extremists/elitists to try to ignore actual popular opinion on things.
