Beto ran the kind of campaign a certain Senator from Illinois did. Had he run in a slightly more liberal state than here in Texas, he would have won.
I don’t get the “can’t go from the House to the presidency thing.” It’s not like 2016 was his first term. He’s got government experience. The House isn’t the lesser chamber.
Normally you can’t go from the House to the presidency because most House members are not well known, even within their own districts, let alone their states or nationally. Senators have an advantage - they have statewide name recognition and there’s fewer of them, and they more often end up on TV. Usually, you’d need to be in the House leadership to have national name recognition.
Beto is different because, despite running a mostly Texas race, he gained national attention. That helps.
