Many of those tunes are 40 years old and are still incredibly popular. I can hear them being played in 60 years from now, easily. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was the turning point, in my humble opinion. Sure it was the first LP to sell 40 million copies. But would you listen to any song from that LP right now? I mean do any of those tunes beckon you? I think not. From that point on, music was made for the moment. No real staying power. Sure there is the odd exception.
