When you look at the votes for civil rights (and current opposition to expanding civil rights protections to other classes) on a geographical basis, there’s a whole different game at play.

It’s the Southern States that continue to large oppose, regardless of what party label you’ve attached. It’s almost like a certain war of Southern Secession never happened from the rhetoric and ahistorical positions taken.
