A few things. Think of Colorado like four different regions, The Front Range (all the cities north and south of Denver along the first big mountain range in the southern Rocky Mountains), the eastern plains (everything east of the Front Range), the Mountains, and the Western Slope (everything from the Utah border East for about a hundred miles).

So that complicates things. Thing to keep in mind is the dynamic between The Front Range/Mountains politics with the Eastern Plains/Western Slope politics, which is about as opposite as you can get.

The Mountains are just a liberal in a lot of cases as The Front Range, and that’s because of, well, the mountains. Ski areas, national forests, wilderness areas, which tend to liberalize political thought. Those communities are also more prosperous than their Western Slope/Eastern Plains counterparts, which means better schools and infrastructure and the like.

Colorado is very strange politically.

Thanks man. Very interesting stuff. I definitely agree with you about wilderness tending to liberalize people. Same brother I think more or less had quasi libertarian views for a while but since he’s lived in places like Colorado and presently the Tahoe area, he’s become a huge environmental guy. He’s also valued education more too since he himself is a student as is his daughter.
