I would use White House Chief-of-Staff John Kelly, his correct title for the position he was in.

Trump didn’t hire him because he is a retired general (though he spun it that way). He hired him because he is a racist. Note other advisors he’s hired are not generals (Larry Kudlow, Bill Shine, Stephen Miller, &c). “General” was the cover story.

Most retired officers (or enlisted) do not introduce themselves with their rank or rating unless the particular event or situation warrants it.

I was just using “general’ in the general way he was referred to often. And Trump did add him into his general usage of “My generals.”

Reminder to self. Military members are all strict and shit about military terms.
