I don’t know. Comparing the US today to the Weimar Republic seems a stretch. Germany had recently suffered total defeat and economic collapse. Communists and Nazis were armed and killing one another. The Germans never believed in the Weimar Republic much to begin with. They went from an autocratic goverment to a very weak government. Not sure there is much in common between Weimar and the US.

Let’s go down the list, shall we?

1) Economic collapse? - In progress.
2) Social and moral decay? - Weimar “outrages” would be PG or PG-13 today.
3) Armed radicals, left and right? - Check, and we can expect a continuation of political violence.

I didn’t say we’re there. Not yet, but the slide is there. A once great nation, suffering the effects of bearing ALONE the costs of a war, economic downturn, a fragmented culture, moral decline, contempt for the rule of low left, right, and center, and political violence in a time of weak and ineffective governments. We’ve got a light case of the Weimar flu; give it time.
