The Democratic Party of my grandfather’s youth was heavily comprised of working class men. We’ll welcome them into our party if they want to but they need to eralize that they share a party with racial minorities, women, immigrants, LGBT people, etc all of whom have issues that should be listened to. What infuriates me is this lie that Clinton didn’t address the working class’s concerns. She did, she just didn’t lie to them about returnng them to a mythological past like Trump/Sanders did.

Happy the factory jobs that employed our parents and grandparents and gave them the ability to buy a house, car, put the kids through college while the wife stayed home are no more. My nephews and nieces are all struggling to find jobs that pay probably a third in real wages of what my Dad earned. I ran the figures through my economic models and I discovered that in real 1960-70 dollars, I make around 60% of what Dad did when he was a boilermaker.

The American middle class peaked in October 1973, then three shocks hit it First, the OPEC oil embargo, second the abandonment of the Detroit labor standards where management decided to go all in to kill unions and third the Powell Memorandum plan for the Republicans to gear up their 24/7 Bullshit Machine to brainwash the masses. All three combined began the destruction of the middle class in this country. Sadly we are going to return to the Gilded Age where very few live like kings while the 99% live as peasants.
