I may like George Conway’s politics marginally more than Kellyanne Conway’s, but…

What is happening inside that marriage does not necessarily reflect any configuration we imagine from their public personas. The most obvious reason being that both are performing for an audience and that spectacle is what we’re judging them on.

And I feel it’s necessary to point out a specific angle on this that I don’t see people are considering: George Conway may be “in the right” in his current expressed politics but could still be a shitty husband whose shittiness contributes to Kellyanne Conway doing the kind of sour-tempered Mouth-of-Sauron work she does. That is just as “real” a story as the idea that he’s somehow the long-suffering one.

And given that the two met up through the intervention of Ann Coulter, there’s the distinct possibility that the Conways are, dialectically, both opportunistic apers of trends to make a buck and dismal wanna-be hegemons that believe some form of inherent hierarchy of human beings…hence their conservatism. And since US conservatism is always about the nonspecific sense of inherent superiority that excuses the errors and flaws of the in-group, for them it may just be normal to forgive one another their wrong-think because the important thing is neither is part of the greater mass of born-wrong lesser kinds of people.
