I read, perhaps in Slate, a speculative article about Hitler’s first girlfriend, before Eva Braun. The article mentioned that Hitler was said to have a kink called Undinism, named after Undine (of the sea).

The common definition of Undinism is exactly what Twitter is on fire about!

I’m not interested in Hitler’s preferences, but I love the term “Undinism”. It makes this common kink seem to be ominous and scary, just as when I was in middle school, when I could say “Sexual DEV-iant” in just the right tone of voice to get everyone around me to show me on the doll where my bully touched me.

Just imagine my congressman in MA-6, Seth Moulton, in a hearing, saying, “Mr. President, is it true that you’re an *Undinist*?!”
