re: #265 wheat-dogg

I would argue these people are predisposed to want an authority figure (a male one) to tell them everything will be OK, because he will make it happen. A father figure, IOW. They don’t understand the complexities of business or economics, so they don’t understand why those factory jobs are gone forever. So, when Trump says he can fix it, they believe him because they want to believe. To do otherwise means they have to accept the grim reality that they are SOL, or (Dog forbid) have voted for a woman.

There’s a lot of irony here, like these folks are quick to bitch about other people being ‘entitled’, but they feel they are entitled to a good job in their hometowns.

And they see themselves as the ‘REAL Americans’, whereas the ones they deride as ‘snowflakes’ are much more likely to have left their homes behind to make a better life for themselves - you know, kinda like the folks who built America?

But leaving aside kicking people while they’re down for just a moment, think about it - a lot of these folks saw the factories leaving and hunkered down, staying put as their prospects dwindled and with them their bank accounts and their home values. Trump told them he’d make it all better and in their desperation, they believed him.

Now he tells them their hometowns are dead, and they should all move.
